Mumbai-based legal and tax advisory firm Nishith Desai Associates has expanded its presence in the US with the launch of an office in New York to practice Indian law, it said in a statement.
The company now has eight offices, including four outside India. This is the company's second office in the US, where it hopes to tap into rising activity of private equity firms. The firm has had an office on the West Coast, in Silicon Valley’s Palo Alto, for 15 years.
The Indian firm said the new office will help it meet the growing demand of clients in the North American region and complement companies and law firms in their India-related projects.
The New York office will be led by Mansi Seth, an international tax, funds and corporate lawyer. She is also a member of the New York state bar.
Sheth graduated from National Law University, Jodhpur, and then worked at Nishith Desai Associates in Mumbai for five years. She completed her postgraduate from Georgetown University Law Center in the US. She has now rejoined the firm from PwC in New York where she worked between 2013 and 2015.
Nishith Desai specialises in international tax, corporate and mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital, intellectual property and cross-border dispute resolution. It is among the top corporate law firms in the country and figured among the biggest five in M&A legal advisory work by value of deals last year (click here for more on that).
