Law firm Khaitan & Co has elevated around two dozen lawyers as partners and counsels.

While 11 advocates have been promoted as equity partners, nine will be associate partners. Four others have been elevated as counsels, it said in a statement.

The move comes close on the heels of another law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas elevating 21 lawyers as partners.

Seven partners from Khaitan & Co’s Mumbai office—Abhishek Sinha, Anshul Prakash, Anuj Shah and Vineet Shingal in the firm’s corporate practice; Akhil Bhatnagar and Gagan Singh in energy & infrastructure vertical and Manisha Shroff in banking and finance—will now be equity partners.

Also, three partners from its New Delhi office—Kabir Bogra in indirect tax as well as Rajat Jariwal and Rajiv Shankar Bhatnagar in litigation practice—will be equity partners.

One partner belonging to the corporate practice vertical at its Kolkata office—Arindam Sarkar—has also been elevated as an equity partner.

Khaitan & Co, which was founded in November 1911 in Kolkata, also promoted nine lawyers as associate partners.

These include Divaspati Singh and Vivek Mimani (funds advisory), Ritu Sakhtawat (direct tax) and Subhayu Sen (corporate) from Mumbai.

While two lawyers from New Delhi—Divya Chaturwedi (litigation) and Sagardeep Rathi (competition)—have been promoted as associate partners, two more from Kolkata—Supratim Chakraborty (corporate) and Vivek Jhunjhunwala (litigation)—have been elevated to the same position. From the Bengalure office, Thomas George (securities and capital market) has been promoted as associate partner.

The firm also promoted four lawyers—Stuti Galiya and Vaibhav Mittal from Mumbai, Sabhyasachi Patra from New Delhi and Roopa Seth Mitra from Koklata—as counsels.

“Khaitan & Co has been aggressively expanding its size in major cities in recent times. It is among a few law firms that did not bear the brunt of poaching after the split of Amarchand Mangaldas,” said the managing partner of a Mumbai-based law firm, requesting anonymity. “With this, Khaitan & Co will have around 125 partners and it will be interesting to see how they will fuel growth going forward,” he said.

Last month, Khaitan & Co appointed Nalina Mayegowda as a disputes partner at its Bangalore office to take care of the firm’s litigation and dispute practice. Mayegowda previously worked as a dispute resolution and litigation partner at mid-sized law firm Poovaya & Co.
