Khaitan & Co brings Abhimanyu Bhattacharya from Amarchand & Mangaldas as partner

Law firm Khaitan & Co has inducted Abhimanyu Bhattacharya as a partner in the capital markets practice at the Mumbai office, according to a press release. The company has also promoted Iqbal Khan as the associate partner in the M&A and private equity practice at the firm's Mumbai office.

Bhattacharya is a law graduate from The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), and also holds a LLM graduate degree from the National University of Singapore.

He has experience in various types of capital markets transactions, including initial and follow-on public offers, rights issues, qualified institutional placements, ADRs/GDRs, FCCB offers and offshore high yield bonds.

Prior to this appointment, he was a partner at the country's top corporate law firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co in Mumbai.

“Abhimanyu is a highly regarded capital markets lawyer whose arrival will help us strengthen our capital markets practice. The work Abhimanyu undertakes for the firm will not only help maintain the firm's momentum, but build on its rapidly increasing reputation,” Rabindra Jhunjhunwala, partner at Khaitan & Co, said.

Khan joined Khaitan & Co last year and has been a member of the M&A and PE group of the firm's Mumbai office and his areas of focus are corporate and commercial transactions like mergers and acquisitions (both domestic and cross-border), private equity and venture capital investments, joint ventures and advisory on foreign investment laws and corporate laws. His experience also includes advising on franchising laws.

Prior to joining Khaitan & Co, he worked at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, New York and at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP, New York.

He did his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his LL.B. from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Last month, Khaitan & Co had inducted Hormaz Daruwalla as a partner in the indirect tax practice at the Mumbai office.
