Kadet Defence Systems in talks with European firm to form alliance

Indian unmanned air vehicle manufacturer Kadet Defence Systems Limited is in advanced stages of talks with a leading European defence firm for a proposed strategic alliance, a statement said.

“Kadet has already been nominated as an industrial partner for Indian MoD programmes and the proposed alliance with this defence firm is a natural progression,” said Avdhesh Khaitan, founder and CEO, Kadet Defence.

The partnership would help in drawing a roadmap for technology transfer, joint development and local manufacturing, including outsourcing and provision of joint services in the Asia Pacific region, the statement said.

However, it is not clear if the alliance would take the form an equity partnership.

Also, the strategic alliance with the European company will allow the Kolkata-based firm to meet the requirements of the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Armed Forces, it said.

“The need for indigenisation of the ever-growing requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, owing to changing geopolitical challenges, could be suitably addressed by the offset clause inserted in all the defence procurement contracts. This will act as a catalyst for the transfer of technology/equipment catering to the diverse needs of the Indian Armed Forces,” Rakesh Singh, group head (defence and aerospace), non-infra, SBI Capital Markets Ltd, said.
