Infosys BPO sacks CFO over ’conduct’, CEO also steps down; Anup Uppadhayay is new chief

IT services major Infosys Ltd said Abraham Mathews has been sacked by the board of its BPO subsidiary Infosys BPO Ltd for not complying with the code of conduct of the company, as per a stock market disclosure. In a parallel development, Gautam Thakkar, the current CEO of Infosys BPO has also resigned taking moral responsibility and will step down with effect from November 30, 2014.

“This departure is in keeping with the company’s goal of setting the highest standards of corporate governance and adhering to the letter and spirit of the company's code of conduct,” the company said in a statement to the BSE.

The BPO company has appointed Deepak Bhalla as the new CFO and named Atul Uppadhayay as new CEO and MD in place of Thakkar.

Uppadhayay joined Infosys in 1993 and has held various senior roles within the firm. Most recently, he served as senior vice-president and global head of delivery for financial services. 

Before joining Infosys, the IIM Bangalore grad worked for National Computers and Uptron.

He would take over from Thakkar, a founding member, who played a key role in setting up Infosys BPO in 2002. Before joining Infosys, he worked with Accenture, Chemtex Engineering and Aptech in various capacities.

Deepak Bhalla, who joined Infosys in 1998, has most recently served as associate vice-president and head of corporate accounting group. He has also worked with the companies like J K Corp Ltd and Industrial Finance Corporation of India Ltd, in the past.

Set up in April 2012, Infosys BPO focuses on integrated end-to-end outsourcing. IT had a staff base of 30, 537 as of September 30, 2014.
