HDFC-Max, Tata-Yara dominate M&A activity; few PE, VC deals this past week

The boards of HDFC, Max Financial Services and Max Life Insurance approved a merger that will create the largest private-sector life insurer in India. This and Tata Chemicals' sale of its urea unit to Norway’s Yara International for $400 million were the two big M&A deals closed during the week. The week also saw nine startups get angel and seed funding, but there were few private equity and venture capital deals.
