Gloob Décor acquires gaming startup Banana Interactive for augmented reality play

Home decor company Gloob Décor has acquired gaming and application development startup Banana Interactive Games Pvt Ltd in a bid to strengthen its presence in the augmented reality-enabled interior designing space.

Financial details of this transaction are not disclosed.

Banana Interactive will work with Gloob towards developing technological capabilities that allow interior designers, retailers and customers to visualise their furniture in a 3D environment, as per a press statement.

Following the arrangement, Banana Interactive now spearheads the visual app development vertical at Gloob, which is run by Gloob Interior Design Pvt Ltd. 

“Gloob envisions the idea of combining cutting edge hardware with technology enabled applications to create special experience zones for retail showrooms, wherein customer can design their desired furniture by selecting each modular element and see it projected on a wall with real objects...to get an accurate feel of the space," said Mrinal Sharma, partner at Gloob Decor.

"The Banana Interactive team brings with them a valuable skill set of gamification of this experience and thus we are excited about this development,”  Sharma said.

Banana Interactive was founded by Prafful Sahu and Ritesh Ranjan.  Sahu is a computer engineer graduate from VIIT. Prior to starting Banana Interactive, he worked with Wings Intellect, a game development company. Ranjan is an  engineer who worked with Wings Intellect before launching Banana Interactive.

Gloob was founded by Kunal Sharma and Ankur Muchhal in 2011. The company calls itself a multi-category, design and production lab in the home improvement space. Gloob claims to have designed and manufactured more than 200,000 unique products in-house as part of its manufacturing and distribution portfolio.

Last month, Gloob launched India’s first 3D sofa visualiser application software named Flipcouch. The application is used for automating sofa designing. Gloob employs over 200 people across 30 cities.
