Global Environment Fund promotes Sridhar Narayan as MD

Global Environment Fund (GEF), an alternative asset investment management firm, has promoted two members of its global private equity growth capital investment team—Mumbai-based Sridhar Narayan and Sao Paulo-based (Brazil) Maurício Marçal—as managing directors.

"The appointments reflect our commitment to attracting, developing and promoting local investment professionals in all of our key global growth markets. Narayan and Marçal have played critical roles in value creation for GEF’s portfolio companies in India and Brazil,” said Jeffrey Leonard, CEO of GEF.

Narayan joined GEF as principal in 2012. Prior to that, he was working with JRE Partners (an investment partnership of Jardine, Rothschild and Exor for private equity investments in Asia), Mumbai, where he was responsible for growth capital investments in a host of rapidly growing sectors. Narayan, who started his career with Zurich Asset Management, also served as vice president for direct investments at American International Group (AIG), Mumbai.

A mechanical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU), Narayan is also an MBA from IIM Bangalore.

Established in 1990, GEF invests in private sector businesses dedicated to energy and environmental resource management industries. Its investment programmes span three asset classes—private equity (growth capital), real assets (sustainable timberlands) and infrastructure (energy generation, environmental control, urban environment and transportation). The firm manages approximately $1 billion in capital and has more than 30 investment professionals in locations such as Mumbai, Washington, Beijing, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Sao Paulo.
