US-headquartered conglomerate General Electric (GE) has promoted Munesh Makhija as managing director of GE India Technology Center and chief technology officer (CTO) of GE India, as per a statement.
He takes over from Gopichand Katragadda who is leaving the company to join Tata Sons as group CTO. Makhija will be based at the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bangalore.
Katragadda had taken over as the chief of the unit two years ago after having spent some 10 years with the global conglomerate. In this position he has been leading GE’s India technology team of over 5,000 engineers and scientists.
"In his new role, Makhija will build on this foundation and drive growth by enhancing technical capability and increasing new product development," said Mark Little, senior vice-president and CTO of GE.
Makhija, who joined GE in 2003 as engineering director for GE Healthcare, has held various leadership roles. He has served as the vice-president of Global Research at GE Healthcare in one of his recent assignments. Prior to that, he was the CTO for GE Healthcare in India.
Prior to joining GE, Makhija was in the telecommunications industry for 10 years and held several positions in technology and research leadership, software engineering, new product development, program management and product marketing.
Makhija holds an MBA degree in management from North Central College, US. He also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, Bombay and Purdue University, US, respectively.
