Freshdesk’s latest funding from Tiger Global & Accel valued it over $50M

Freshdesk Inc’s latest fundraising of $7 million from existing investors Accel Partners and Tiger Global has valued the Chennai- and California-based SaaS startup at more than $50 million, according to a report at VentureWire.

With the Series C round of funding in November this year, which was led by Tiger Global, the total capital raised so far by Freshdesk stands at $13 million. In April last year, Freshdesk had secured a Series B funding of $5 million from the same investors, followed by a $1 million funding from Accel Partners in December 2011. The firm is expected to hit revenue of more than $10 million this year, the report added.

The company was set up in 2010 by Girish Mathrubootham (CEO) and Shan Krishnasamy (CTO). Mathrubootham, who holds an MBA from the University of Madras, earlier worked with Zoho Corporation. At Zoho, he met his co-founder who was working as a technical architect at that time. Krishnasamy is an engineering graduate from Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology, Vellore.

Freshdesk provides a SaaS-based customer support platform to enterprises. It was originally started to provide email and website integration customer support and later it launched phone-based Twitter and Facebook support as well.

In a chat with Techcircle.in in October, Mathrubootham said that the firm had a customer base of 11,000. The VentureWire report says it has more than 14,000 customers, including Hugo Boss AG, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc and UNICEF which means it has added over 3,000 clients in the past two months alone.

A few weeks ago, the firm launched an integrated telephony feature called Freshfone, a virtual cloud-based contact centre software that allows staff to handle telephone-based queries through its unified service.
