An alumnus of Columbia University and National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Nikhil started his career with Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh & Co in 2004. In 2009, he joined Jones Day in Singapore. In 2015, he moved back to India and joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas as partner.
“Nikhil, who has vast experience in a variety of securities offerings in India and abroad, strengthens the reach of our capital markets practice. With his addition, the firm has 103 partners across India,” Shardul S Shroff, executive chairman of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, said in a statement.
Nikhil specialises in advising clients on public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities.
“With Nikhil joining us, we have seven capital markets partners advising on equity and debt transactions,” said Prashant Gupta, national practice head – capital markets at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas.
Shroff brothers Cyril and Shardul had agreed not to poach lawyers from one another for some time after their separation in May 2015. Even after the expiry of the period, the firms have poached only a few lawyers from each other.
In May, Gaurav Singhi joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. Also, last year the Cyril Shroff-owned firm’s Chennai partner Dorothy Thomas joined Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. Also, Asim Abbas joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas in July last year.
“Shardul Shroff is known to take more time to hire people and he prefers to wait for till he finds the right talent,” said a Mumbai-based consultant who advises firms on placements.
