Exclusive: Cab pooling app Derbii gets seed funding

12 May, 2016

Winwincab Rides Pvt. Ltd, which runs cab pooling app Derbii, has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Accenture managing director Anurag Chauhan.

“We’ll use the new funds to improve our technology, get more users, and increase the number of cabs on the road,” Gaurav Sinsinwar, co-founder, Derbii told VCCircle. “We are looking at another round of investment in the next three months and have received commitment from the existing investor.”

The Derbii app is focused on providing carpooling services for office-goers in Delhi NCR. It allows users to post requests on the app and also offers services such as GPS tracking and online payments.

The Gurgaon-based startup was founded last year by IIT Delhi alumni Gaurav Sinsinwar and Prasenjit Singh along with IIT Roorkee alumnus Akash Chaudhary. Sinsinwar has earlier worked with Deepalaya and Aishwarya Group, while Chaudhary has worked with Grofers and Singh was with Angelique International Ltd.

Winwincab Rides Pvt. Ltd, which runs Derbii, first began its operations as a B2B service provider for corporates, and launched its B2C operations two months ago. It claims to have more than 20 cabs at present.

The ride-sharing sector is dominated by bigger players such as Ola Share, UberPool, and others.

Online travel group Ibibo had launched a carpooling app named Ryde in April. Another player in the same space, Hyderabad-based Zify Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd had raised $190,000 in angel funding from two Hyderabad-based investors and Sean O’Sullivan of SOSventures.

In September last year, Meru Cab Company Pvt. Ltd, one of India’s oldest radio taxi firms, ventured into the car-pooling space by launching a new service for customers headed for the same area.

In January 2016, car-pooling app Orahi received $250,000 in a funding round was led by IAN investors Vinish Kathuria and Amandeep Gupta.
