E-commerce major Flipkart has appointed Aditya Agarwal, vice president of engineering at Dropbox, to its board of directors as an independent board member.

Commenting on the appointment, Sachin Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Flipkart, said, “Agarwal is one of the best technology minds in Silicon Valley today. With Facebook, Cove and now Dropbox, he is associated with building and driving some of the most innovative technology product companies in the world. His experience and expertise will help us continue to build a world-class technology company out of India.”

Agarwal has over 10 years of work experience and is currently the VP of engineering at California-headquartered cloud storage company Dropbox Inc. In his role, he oversees the different engineering teams including new product development, infrastructure, platform and operations. He had earlier co-founded Cove, a stealth collaboration startup that was acquired by Dropbox in 2012 (Agarwal came to Dropbox via the acquisition).

Prior to Cove, he was the director of product engineering at Facebook where he oversaw the development of products such as news feed, search, photos, profile and applications. He had earlier also worked as an engineer at Oracle. Agarwal holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, US.

“Technology drives some of the biggest innovations in this world. I'm excited to join Flipkart, which is building technology that can change the retail landscape of a country as complex as India,” said Agarwal.

Flipkart had recently made top level changes inducting a new CFO and shuffling its management’s top deck.

Just yesterday, Flipkart had added two new members to its leadership team with Rishi Vasudev joining as a vice president for fashion retail and Parameswaran Balakrishnan being named as vice president (HR) for supply chain.

In his new role, Vasudev will spearhead profit and loss for all fashion categories at Flipkart. He would report to Mukesh Bansal, founder of Myntra who is head of fashion unit at the e-com firm and also recently took the additional role of head of marketing. Balakrishnan will look at driving all business partnering, talent acquisition and functional learning and development for supply chain at the company.
