DBS Bank, a subsidiary of Singapore-based DBS Group, has appointed Rahul Johri as the new head for its consumer banking division in India. Johri was till now working with Barclays Bank in India as business head of Retail Liabilities. He would also be a member of the Group Consumer Banking Executive Committee at DBS Bank.
Johri's appointment comes on backdrop of DBS Group announcing that it will lay off 900 employees and will also significantly reduce their bonuses.
Johri is the second senior executive to leave Barclays India this month. Earlier Suresh Gurmani, Director of Consumer Banking for Barclays also decided to leave for SKS Microfinance, where he will be the CEO.
Johri has also worked with ANZ Grindlays and Standard Chartered Bank in his seventeen year career. He was part of the start-up team for Barclays Bank in India and also developed the alternate channel strategy for the retail bank.
Johri holds a mechanical engineering degree from IIT, Kharagpur and is a postgraduate from XLRI Jamshedpur.
