Columbia Asia to invest $150M to expand hospital chain in Southeast Asia, India

Columbia Asia, a two-decade-old chain of hospitals headquartered in Malaysia with 27 facilities across India, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia, said it plans to invest $150 million over the next four years to expand its operations in India and rest of Southeast Asia.

The capital will be used to expand its network to 34 hospitals and one clinic by 2018.

It currently has more than 8,000 employees serving more than 2 million patients a year across its facilities.

It has opened four more hospitals over the past few months including two in Indonesia and one each in Bangalore and Ahmedabad in India.

In the coming four years it plans to set up eight more hospitals, three each in Malaysia and India besides two in Indonesia.

Its current strategy is to create a cluster of hospitals in large urban areas.

The firm had hired John Northen recently as its CEO. Northen has several years of experience in the hospitality industry, including six years as vice president for Marriott International in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

“Since opening our first hospital in 1994, Columbia Asia has grown to become one of the most trusted names in healthcare across Asia. Our goal is to continue to ensure all patients leave our hospitals cared for medically as well as feeling satisfied, respected and comforted,” said Northen, CEO, Columbia Asia Group of Companies.

Columbia Asia is part of parent company, Columbia Pacific Management. Besides Columbia Asia, the company has three senior living facilities in China through its China senior care affiliate, Cascade Healthcare.
