In Charts: The curious case of falling SEZ exports from PM Modi’s home state Gujarat

It was in 2005 that India passed the Special Economic Zones Act to set up the export-focused regions and boost the country’s outbound trade. There are now 208 operational SEZs in India across 16 states. These SEZs have attracted total investment of around Rs 4.06 trillion, and exports from these zones have surged 20 times over the years.
