Capillary hires former Yum! Brands exec to lead strategy

Bangalore-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider Capillary Technologies Pvt. Ltd has roped in former Yum! Brands executive Sunil Suresh as global vice president of strategy, a company statement said.

Suresh will lead initiatives related to Capillary’s brand and product positioning, marketing, consulting capabilities, and customer engagement, the press note added.

“Sunil has a proven track record of leading teams and driving growth in marquee F100 companies,” Aneesh Reddy, founder and chief executive of Capillary Technologies, said.

An IIT-Roorkee and an IIM-Lucknow alumnus, Suresh has 18 years of experience across functions including marketing, brand strategy, profit and loss management and digital transformation. He spent six years at Yum! Brands Inc., where he was chief digital officer. Yum! Brands owns popular fast food brands KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

In his earlier assignments, he spent nine years at FMCG giant Unilever and also worked at HCL Infosystems Ltd.

Capillary was founded in August 2008 by IIT Kharagpur alumni Reddy, Krishna Mehra and Ajay Modani. It offers cloud-based software solutions to offline retailers to help them engage with their customers through mobile, social and in-store channels.

It claims to have more than 250 customers, including Unilever, Walmart, Landmark, Calvin Klein, Gap, Courts, Clarks, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Puma.

Capillary has acquired minority stakes in Noida-based customer relationship management services startup Exclusife Technosoft Pvt. Ltd. and user engagement platform WebEngage. In August last year, it acquired e-commerce technology solutions and services provider Sellerworx Online Service Pvt. Ltd for an undisclosed amount.

Capillary Technologies has raised nearly $85 million in external funding till date from Warburg Pincus, Sequoia Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners, and American Express Ventures, among others, according to data available with VCCEdge, the data and financial research platform of VCCircle.
