Online retailer Flipkart has raised as much as $2.4 billion from Japanese telecom and Internet conglomerate SoftBank Group Corp. This investment will help Flipkart defend its leadership position in the Indian e-commerce market. But for how long will Flipkart be able to keep Amazon at bay? Is this funding the first step in a potential grand alliance among SoftBank, Flipkart, Paytm and China’s Alibaba, given that the Japanese investor also has investments in the other two?
