Paris-headquartered Bureau Veritas SA, world’s second largest group in conformity assessment and certification services, has acquired Bangalore-based Civil-Aid Technoclinic Pty Ltd for an undisclosed amount, the company has said in a statement.

Incorporated in 1998, Civil-Aid offers a full range of quality assurance and technical control services – from design review to site inspection and testing of building materials. The firm operates two laboratories and also has on-site mobile testing capacities. It has 235 employees on board and generated revenue of €3.4 million (Rs 22 crore or $4.9 million) in 2010.

With this acquisition, Bureau Veritas will now have 3,550 staff members in India, across 50-plus locations. Currently, the group has 50,000 employees, 930 offices and 330 laboratories in 140 countries.

Bureau Veritas is already a leading player in systems certification, industry inspection and commodities testing in India. Its first acquisition in the country rounds out the current portfolio of services and positions the group in the booming infrastructure space. As quality control in construction is increasingly required by private operators and public authorities, this will further enhance the group’s activities and opportunities in India.

Bureau Veritas has streamlined its business into eight groups, such as marine, inspection and in-service verification, health, safety and environment, construction, certification, consumer product services, government services and international trade.
