Bharti Airtel creates new management structure for India business

The country’s top telecom firm Bharti Airtel has rejigged its management structure handling India business with a new hub organisation design wherein the current three regional hubs will be split into eight hubs reporting to a newly created position of director, market operations.

Ajai Puri, currently operations director North and East has been appointed as the director, market operations, for India and will report to Gopal Vittal, joint MD and CEO designate for India.

The new structure, effective March 1, is aimed at furthering the company’s initiatives to build a more connected organisation, which is closer to the market place, the firm said on Thursday.

Circle CEOs who report in to a hub CEO will continue to operate with the same structure. The hub CEO will provide overall guidance and oversight to the circles under it.

In other appointments, Raghunath Mandava, currently operations director for West and Distribution has been appointed director, customer experience, reporting to India chief Vittal.

Najib Khan, CMO, Airtel Business, has been appointed as CEO Homes and Office. In this role, he will be responsible for the company’s Telemedia business, the SMB vertical, LTE and Wi-fi.

K Srinivas will take over as director, special projects (effective March 4). He would be responsible for evaluating potential investment opportunities and developing business case across various lines of business and report directly to Sunil Mittal, chairman of Bharti Airtel.

This comes soon after a top management shuffle wherein Sanjay Kapoor, the chief executive officer for the Indian business put in his papers and the company said Gopal Vittal, who joined the firm last April as group director, special projects, will replace him from March. In another move, Manoj Kohli who was heading international business as its CEO and was also joint MD has been made the managing director while Vittal has become the joint MD.
