Belgium-based Tractebel Engineering acquires Chennai-based Cethar Consulting Engineers

Belgium-based Tractebel Engineering has acquired Chennai-based engineering consulting outfit Cethar Consulting Engineers Ltd (CCE) for an undisclosed amount, as per a company statement.

Incorporated in 2005, CCE provides engineering consultancy services for power, oil and gas sectors. It has served numerous independent power plants (IPPs) and captive power plants (CPPs) in the industries such as cement, textile, chemicals, petrochemical, sugar, steel, pulp & paper.

Its clients include Ramky Enviro Engineers, Yuvaraj Power Projects, Lanco Infratech, Dalmia Group, Lanco and  Apollo Tyres Ltd. The firm has 110 employees and will start integrating with Tractebel Engineering over the next few months.

Through this acquisition, Tractebel Engineering, a unit of French utility major GDF SUEZ, is expanding its engineering operations in India.

"This acquisition makes Tractebel Engineering a key player in the thermal power sector in India and strongly enhances its portfolio of offerings, which include gas pipelines, LNG, hydro power and T&D sectors. This deal also strengthens our presence in southern India besides providing additional expertise in engineering for captive and independent power plants,” said Sunil Mehra, chairman & managing director of Tractebel Engineering Pvt Ltd.

New Delhi-based Tractebel Engineering Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Belgium-based Tractebel Engineering, had entered Indian market in 2000. Its services cover the whole lifecycle of the projects, from feasibility studies to decommissioning.

"The business opportunities in the Indian market are immense. This is just another step to tap the potential existing in the energy market. We are on the lookout for similar opportunities, which will accelerate our pace of growth in India," said Marc Lepièce, Tractebel Engineering's executive vice-president and in charge of international business development.
