Barclays Corp Ropes New Trade Finance Chief From StanChart

Barclays Corporate, the corporate banking arm of the UK-based Barclays Group has appointed Tan Kah Chye as its new Head of Trade and Working Capital, who joins from Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. Based in London he will also seek to grow India trade finance business which accounts for more than a quarter of Barclays banking income in the country.

At StanChart Chye was the Global Head of Trade Finance for the last six years. He has also worked in senior trade finance positions at global banks such as Deutsche Bank, JPM Chase and Citibank.

Previously Barclays had appointed Karan Bhagat as managing director and country head for Barclays Corporate in India to build the corporate business for the Indian sub-continent.

Director Corporate Banking at Barclays, Rajeev Chalisgaonkar, said “Tan Kah Chye’s appointment will provide an enormous fillip to our trade finance capabilities in India and will give us a real competitive edge."

Barclays Corporate provides integrated banking solutions to businesses with an annual turnover of more than £5 million in the UK and large local companies, financial institutions and multinationals in non-UK markets. It is into lending, risk management, cash and liquidity management, trade finance and asset and sales financing.
