The festive season is in full swing but many traders and businesses are not really rejoicing as they say consumer sentiment remains muted. While consumer spending has recovered from the blow of demonetisation late last year, the rollout of the goods and services tax in July has caused confusion among businesses, especially small and mid-sized ones. Some analysts say these macroeconomic upheavals have impacted retail sales, but a few others feel that Diwali sales patterns have shifted.
