Ten months after Apple chief executive Tim Cook announced his intent to launch a startup accelerator for the iOS developer community in India, the Cupertino-based technology major has opened its App Accelerator in Bengaluru.

Through the accelerator, developers can avail of tools and best practices to hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, a company statement said.

The accelerator will also bring in Apple technology evangelists, who will provide specialised briefings and detailed app analysis feedback for over 500 developers every week. The facility will also provide support and guidance on Swift, Apple’s programming language for Macintosh-based platforms, iOS, Apple TV and Apple Watch.

“In just the first few weeks, we’ve already seen some incredible developers here at the App Accelerator Bengaluru create innovative apps that can meet the needs of customers in India and around the world,” said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

As part of its renewed focus on India after reporting sagging sales of its iPhones across the globe, Apple, through its Taiwanese manufacturing partner Wistron Corp, is all set to establish a manufacturing plant in the Peenya industrial area near Bengaluru.

On Thursday, Mint quoted Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge as saying that Apple will be ready to start assembling high-end iPhones in the city in less than a month.
