Angels 15 - Rajesh Khanna

For Khanna—who was former Warburg Pincus India head—angel investing is now a full-time occupation. Arka Capital—a private investment management firm that he founded post his exit from the global private equity giant—will now focus primarily on making early stage or angel investments. Working out of his Nariman Point office and assisted by two associates, he is currently managing a portion of his own wealth. Khanna, who led Warburg’s India operations for more than a decade, has made significant carry (carried interest or a share of the profits paid out to the investment manager by PE/VC firms) from some of the firm’s marquee exits such as Bharti Airtel and Max India.

Khanna, who typically likes to be a lead investor and writes relatively larger size cheques (Rs 50 lakh to Rs 5 crore), has already invested in two unnamed young healthcare companies. Besides mature or traditional industries, he is open to investing in new sectors such as consumer internet and mobile.

Investments: Two unnamed healthcare companies.
