Akshay Kishore to join Economic Law Practice’s dispute resolution team

Akshay Kishore, an arbitration counsel with Ashurst LLP in Singapore, will join law firm Economic Law Practice (ELP)’s dispute resolution team in Mumbai as associate partner.

An alumnus of Government Law College, Mumbai, and New York University School of Law, Kishore started his career with ALMT Legal in 2007. Later, he worked with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and AZB & Partners as an associate before moving to Ashurst.

“His experience in the financial and commercial dispute space compliments our litigation and dispute resolution practice,” Suhail Nathani, managing partner of Economic Law Practice, said in a statement. “Arbitration is increasingly becoming the preferred choice for clients involved in commercial disputes,” Nathani said.

Kishore has advised companies in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction and finance. He has also advised clients in Indonesia, Thailand, Japan and Australia. “He represented Intrepid Mines in the largest arbitration claim ever filed at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC),” the firm said.

"He is known among companies in sectors such as energy and infrastructure while preparing for any dispute. He is really good when it comes to focus on details,” said a partner of a Mumbai-based law firm who has earlier worked with Kishore.

The dispute resolution space in India has been witnessing a major churn. Recently, PDS Legal’s dispute partner Deepak Chopra joined AZB & Partners to head the firm’s tax litigation and dispute practice in Delhi.
