Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia has roped in Amisha Sethi as chief commercial officer (CCO) of AirAsia India. AirAsia (India) CEO Mittu Chandilya made the announcement on Monday on a social media website.

“Glad to introduce Amisha Sethi, our new chief commercial officer. Hand-picked and would work closely with me in revolutionising Indian aviation,” tweeted Chandilya.

The appointment comes soon after the company hired Chandilya as the India CEO in May this year.

Sethi has more than a decade’s experience in consumer and brand marketing. She has joined AirAsia from BlackBerry where she was doing brand marketing for the Asia-Pacific region. Earlier, she had also worked in the marketing and communications department of Airtel, one of the biggest telecom operators of India.

An MBA in Marketing from Noida’s Amity Business School, Sethi is an executive scholar in Marketing & Sales Management from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University (US).

AirAsia will start its India operations by the end of this year, along with its joint venture partners Tata Sons and Telestra Tradeplace, for which it has already started appointing key executives.

In March this year, the Malaysian budget carrier got the nod from Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for its proposed domestic budget airline in India, thereby making it the first foreign airline to operate a domestic carrier after the government liberalised the aviation sector last September.

At present, AirAsia, through its operations based in Thailand and Malaysia, connect Chennai, Bangalore, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi and Kolkata to ASEAN countries and beyond.

AirAsia was established in 2001 and now has a route network that spans across 20-plus countries. It is a low-cost airline and has associate companies like AirAsia X, Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, Philippines’ AirAsia Inc and AirAsia Japan.
