Adobe India head Naresh Gupta resigns to start a new venture

Naresh Gupta, senior VP - print and publishing for global design application major Adobe and its managing director for India, has resigned from the company to start his entrepreneurial journey, as per a release.

As a result, the print and publishing business unit will report to Matt Thompson, Adobe's executive VP of field operations and other local product teams will report directly into their respective Adobe business units.

Gupta joined Adobe in 1996 and founded Adobe's R&D operation in India in 1997, originally in Noida and later adding Bangalore through Adobe's acquisition of Macromedia in 2005. In addition to leading the India R&D operation, he has led Adobe's print and publishing business unit, overseeing product marketing and development for Adobe's print, web publishing and eLearning tools such as Adobe eLearning Suite and Adobe Technical Communication Suite software.

"Naresh Gupta has played a key role in shaping Adobe's technology and global business strategy and has built a world-class R&D operation in India," said Shantanu Narayen, president and CEO, Adobe.

"We will unveil new research facilities in both Noida and Bangalore this spring to support our future growth,” Narayen added.

Gupta said, "Leaving Adobe has been the toughest decision of my life; the company is growing and is going through the strongest period I've seen in my career with it. However, I am excited to pursue my passion for entrepreneurship in the financial markets.”

Prior to joining Adobe, he served as a principal scientist and director of the applied artificial intelligence (AI) group at LNK Corp, a company funded by the US Department of Defense to develop solutions for image and pattern recognition, target tracking, data mining, and data fusion and compression.

Gupta received a B. Tech degree in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and also holds master's and PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park.

He also serves on the board of Info Edge (India) Ltd.
