Accel Boosts Growth Team, Ropes In Goldman Sachs Honcho Prateek Dhawan

Accel Partners, a venture capital and growth equity firm, has appointed Prateek Dhawan as a principal in its growth equity investing team in India. Dhawan was previously the vice president at Goldman Sachs Investment Partners where he was leading the fund’s private equity investments in India.  

At Accel, he will focus on growth stage investments of $10-50 million in mid-sized Indian companies across different sectors, said a company statement. Accel operates across Silicon Valley, Europe, Israel, China and India.

At Goldman Sachs, Dhawan was involved in investments in Tikona Digital Networks, Bharti Infratel and Asian Genco. Prior to that, he worked at Cisco Systems in corporate development where he was involved with several acquisitions and investments including Scientific Atlanta, Arroyo Video and Widevine.  He also worked with DLJ Merchant Banking and Centillium Communications, the statement added.

Neeraj Bharadwaj, managing director, Accel India Growth, said, in the statement, “Prateek’s investment experience and track record will be invaluable in building the franchise in India.” Bharadwaj joined the firm from Apax Partners in October last year.

Accel Partners is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, and has offices in New Delhi and Bangalore in India, besides presence in UK, and China. The fund currently has over $6 billion under management. Some of its portfolio investments in India include Chakpak, DoveTail, HolidayIQ, Inbiopro, Kaati Zone, Kirusa and Myntra.
