Barclays Names Karan Bhagat As India Head
Barclays Plc, a global leader in financial services space, has appointed Karan Bhagat as managing director and country head for Barclays Corporate in India. As part of his new role, Bhagat will focus on the growth of the firm’s corporate business in India and in building stronger synergies with Barclays Capital and Barclays Wealth in the country, said a company statement.
Bhagat joined the firm in 1990 under its management development programme, and served several key roles within the corporate and investment banking divisions. Most recently, he was co-head of the Risk Solutions Group for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Barclays Capital in London, the statement added.
In India, Barclays Corporate primarily targets the commercial banking needs of larger local corporates and the local operations of multi-nationals, in close association with the firm’s wealth and capital management operations. It also has retail banking services on offer in India.
Globally, Barclays offers retail and commercial banking, credit cards, investment banking, wealth management and investment management services, and is headquartered in London.
