Nexus India Capital is now Nexus Venture Partners. The Mumbai-based venture capital firm has undergone a corporate identity makeover in the backdrop of its increasing investments in the US market. Of its 19 portfolio firms, at least 8 are headquartered outside India.

"We were doing investments in the US as well so a broader name made sense," said Sandeep Singhal, founder and director of the venture capital firm. Some of its recent investments like conferencing company DimDim, classifieds firm OLX and cloud computing firm VMops are based out of US. These firms are more international in terms of their market, where India figures as one of the target geographies.

Others like affordable lighting and power solutions firm D.light Design and online video ad network Vdopia are currently focusing on India as one of their main geographies.

But this does not mean that Nexus is shifting its focus from India. "It's not that we are not seeing opportunities in India, but we also see deals through our colleagues in the US," said Singhal, who heads the VC firm's Mumbai office with Suvir Sujan, the co-founder of Baazee. Nexus has an office in Silicon Valley, where its third founder Naren Gupta is based out of.

"We are looking to invest behind entrepreneurs, where we find good (entrepreneurs) we will back them," says Singhal explaining firms US investments. Nexus has $320 million under management across two funds.
