Reliance Technology Ventures Leads Series B Round In US-based E-Band

Reliance Technology Ventures Ltd (RTVL) has made an investment in the US. The corporate venture capital arm of the Reliance ADA Group has led a series B round investment of $10 million in E-Band Communications Corporation (EBCC), a US -based company that makes ultra-high capacity wireless communications systems for the 70/80 GHz E-band spectrum. The funding round includes existing investors ADC, Investec, Hercules Technology Growth Capital, and an unnamed US telecom company.
Reliance Technology Ventures is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Reliance Capital Ltd. The firm had played a major role in Reliance Communications' acquisition of Yipes for $300 million early this year. It has also advised R-ADAG in its investment in travel portal Yatra.com, and has also led the investment into an undisclosed technology company which formed the basis of the largest venture capital transaction in India (this deal is unannounced).
EBCC was started in 2003 to develop ultra-high capacity wireless communications systems for the 70/80 GHz E-band spectrum, which was recently licensed by the US Federal Communications Commission for commercial communications.
EBCC has an exclusive license agreement to co-develop products and communication systems around this technology, with the $30-billion Northrop Grumman Corporation, one of the world’s largest defense, aerospace and technology companies. EBCC’s technology enables the high speed wireless transmission speeds ranging from 1 Gigabit per second up to 10 Gigabits per second.
Harshal J Shah, CEO of RTVL, said in a statement that BCC’s technology is a strong enabler of bandwidth intensive applications. "EBCC provides wireless last mile access and backhaul which is complementary to 4G, WiMAX, distributed antenna systems (DAS) and remote radio heads (RRH), with much greater flexibility than traditional terrestrial networks, and the speed and cost effectiveness of wireless deployment.”
