Vodafone To Buy Or Build Broadband Infrastructure In Its Mobile Markets
Sat, 03/31/2007 - 01:19 — Sahad P VVodafone Group now plans to buy or build DSL fixed line broadband assets in markets where it operates mobile services. The company plans to launch internet services in these markets. Reuters reports, quoting a senior Vodafone executive, that the UK telco may now follow an "asset heavy" approach in terms owning the infrastructure.
Till now the company had been following an asset light strategy. So it bought up wholesale bandwidth in markets like Britain and Italy, instead of building or owning its own infrastructure. That may change now. In Portugal, for example, Vodafone plans to build its own infrastructure and launch DSL services this summer.
In India, Vodafone could choose to acquire a DSL fixed line broadband player. Any ideas?
