Sudheer Kuppam Appointed Managing Director Of Intel Capital In India

Intel Capital has got a new India chief. The chip maker Intel's venture capital arm has appointed Sudheer Kuppam as managing director for India, Japan, Australasia and South-East Asia. Kuppam replaces Kumar Shiralagi, who left Intel Capital to join as MD of NEA IndoUS Vetures.

Kuppam, who will be based out of Bangalore, was formerly a director of Intel Capital’s Flash Memory & Semiconductor sector, and was invloved, for instance, in the fund's recent $65 million investment in Taiwan-based Powertech Technology, Inc. He reports to Arvind Sodhani, president, Intel Capital, and will peer with Cadol Cheung, Intel Capital managing director for China, Korea and Taiwan.

Kuppam will be essentially responsible for leading Intel Capital’s investment strategies and expansion plans in India including the placement of a $250 million India Technology Fund.

He joined Intel in 1997 and in a year was promoted to the role of Engineering Manager, with responsibility for managing a $100 million operational area in Intel’s Technology & Manufacturing Group. He moved to Intel Capital in 2000 and since then was responsible for a diverse group of investments in Asia, Europe and North America supporting Intel’s strategic initiatives. Prior to joining Intel, Kuppam was a process development engineer at LSI Logic. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from IIT Madras and a Masters degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York.
