Sat, 12/02/2006 - 14:44 — Sahad P V
Rajesh Jain has an interesting series on his entrepreneurial journey on his blog. He talks about the successes and failures in his 15-year entrepreneurial career. Interestingly, he has had only one run-away success so far - IndiaWorld, a network of portals like Samachar.com and Khoj.com - which he sold to Sify Ltd for close to Rs 500 crore in 2000. That's more than 100 times his revenues ($1 million), a valuation he got during the dotcom heydays.
Before he managed to build IndiaWorld, he has had several failures as he tried several things such as image processing software. Post-IndiaWorld, Jain admits that has not been able to build any scalable business or a huge organisation. He acted as a venture capitlist for sometime investing in certain businesses (read Rajesh Jain's Ecosystem) like Rajshri Media (broadband entertainment portal) SEraja (an event search engine), PubSub.com (it later shut down) and so on. He is currently focused on building cetrtain businesses in the mobile area.
